The new guidelines for PhD have been sent to all universities and HEIs in the nation by UGC. New guidelines will be used to determine who gets admitted to the different colleges or universities.
Beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year, in accordance with the new National Education Policy, students attending colleges and universities located all across the country will be able to simultaneously pursue a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree in two distinct areas of interest. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has informed all of the nation’s colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher education about the new PhD requirements. The criteria that will be used to select students for admission to various institutions and universities have been updated.
In addition to that, the UGC established a committee that will remain in place. The primary purpose of this standing committee is to monitor the whole process through which higher education institutions issue PhDs and select teachers for instructor professions. According to the UGC, the standing committee would be in charge of collecting data about the selection of certain institutions, faculty recruitment, and the granting of PhD degrees. In addition, the committee will review the documents to determine whether or not they comply with the UGC rules that are in place at these institutions.
Following Delhi University’s decision to mandate the CUET exam for postgraduate students, the university has settled on CUET as the only criterion for admission to PhD programs. However, staff members of Delhi University who are both teaching and non-teaching personnel are eligible to immediately show up for the interview for admission to the PhD course. This applies to both teaching and non-teaching positions. Together with Delhi University, the National Testing Agency (NTA), which will begin coordinating the CUET examinations for PhD applicants beginning in the academic year 2023-2024, will conduct these exams. These examinations will be referred to by their official title, CUET PhD.
According to educationist G.S. Kandpal, the recently implemented education policy gives central universities the opportunity to simultaneously teach two different courses as well as participate in online classes. The new educational policy allows students from all around the country to simultaneously register in two different degree programs if they so want.
