The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines for implementing the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) into university courses. According to the UGC suggestion, subjects like Indian Linguistics, Indian Logic, Indian Architecture, Indian Metallurgy, etc. would be included in the IKS curriculum.
University Grants Commission, also known as the UGC, recently came up with proposals for integrating the Indian Knowledge System, also known as the IKS, into the academic programs that are offered at higher education institutions. The IKS will be used at the undergraduate level as well as the postgraduate level. Implementing the Indian Knowledge System is something that is recommended in the National Educational Policy 2020. According to the sketch that was created by the UGC, the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Syllabus would include topics such as Indian Logic, Indian Metallurgy, Indian Linguistics, Indian Architecture, and many more. In addition, optional courses on topics connected to IKS, such as Indian algebra, Indian iconography, Indian astronomical instruments, Water Management in Pre-British India, Indian musical instruments, etc., might be made available to students.
IKS Utilized in UG Courses
Every student who is enrolled in the 4-year UG program should be encouraged to take a sufficient number of IKS courses, with the end objective of having the total credits gained in IKS make up at least 5% of the total credits necessary. The recommendation should be offered by the faculty members who are in charge of the programs.
IKS Utilized in PG Courses
According to the guidelines issued by the UGC, students who are working towards postgraduate degrees in the arts, sciences, or commerce are not permitted to enroll in a sufficient number of advanced credit courses in any of the disciplines or subjects related to their areas of specialization that are part of IKS. This is to ensure that the total credits earned by the student in IKS amount to at least 5% of the credits that are required.

The UGC has suggested that instructors should take at least one or two sessions on the fundamental vocabulary used in IKS so that they may get more familiar with the associated ideas.
